There are two ways to find and spec CMYK colors. You can flip through one of those expensive 'fan books' or you can look on the Map, the Color Map Pro.

We think the map is better for one main reason; you can see the entire gamut of CMYK instantly, and quickly zero-in on the range you want. From there, the Galaxy Color Map Pro gives you a variety of tools to further hone your color selection, including a color wheel, emotional color guide, pastel chart and color directory.

This tool has improved considerably since the last version ... more colors on the main color chart, the light tones chart and the new Emotional Color Mixer, which shows the color in which you're interested, and then helps you find compliments in two, three or four color combinations.

The Color Map Pro goes beyond the standard 'Fan Book' because we understand what deadlines and executives can do a designer's color sense. The Color Directory has been expanded, for all those times you need to communicate color with the "CMYK-impaired." For example, you can tell your client you're using Emerald, instead of expecting them to know that 100/0/50/25 is the perfect green for their job. We've also added neutrals, and rich black color charts.

You'll get three Galaxy Press Ranger cards with your Color Map Pro, so when you send your job to press, your press-operator can match the ink densities to your Color Map System, and get closer to the density you expect. The Color Map System is UV-laminated for extra-long wear and color-integrity. (Store your tools away from bright light, and replace them if you suspect they may have faded.)

We want to make it easy for great designers to use great color. We listened to what you wanted, and made the best Graphic Design color tool. Rock steady.

Galaxy Press Ranger

If the most famous ranger of the forest is Smokey the Bear, then this is the most famous ranger of the press room. It gently asks skilled press operators to adjust their ink settings to match your industry-tweaked Color Map System. But the forest fire this Ranger prevents is the one that makes you seethe in anger when your press color densities look different from what you were expecting. Good Ranger, good.

Download Press Ranger Color Control Bar in Illustrator 6.0 EPS (eps) format. (use right click [Windows] or hold down mouse button [Mac] to save link to disk.) Place this file on the corners or edges of your CMYK document, and your printer will have tiny color bars that correspond with your Press Ranger tool.

Uncoated Color Set

It isn't common to see CMYK printing on uncoated stock, but Galaxy Users tend to be involved with interesting projects, and they get uncoated CMYK projects on occasion. So at the request of the Galaxy Users Group, we put this kit together. The tools are identical to the regular tools, only instead of being printed on coated stock with lamination, these are on extremely-high whiteness uncoated stock, obviously without lamination.

We're very happy to have made the investment on these tools, even if only a handful of the most serious designers need them, because uncoated CMYK printing is beautiful. It has a gentle feel, an organic look that can never be obtained on coated stock. We're happy to make a contribution to the art.

The key to these colors coming out right is the Press Ranger cards, so we've included five with this set. Be sure to supply your printer with them, because dot-gain is a big issue with uncoated stock, and the dynamic range of the inks varies widely depending on stock. Also includes two Uncoated Pocket Color Maps. Store away from direct sunlight.

Set Includes: Galaxy Color Map Pro Uncoated, 2 Uncoated Pocket Color Maps, 5 Uncoated Press Rangers.
